2014 NNOA Tidewater Chapter Scholarship Banquet

Over the last few fiscal years, the National Naval Officers Association, Incorporated (NNOA)has created a platform to support ONR STEM initiatives in stimulating minority student to embrace STEM programs and encourage students to pursue STEM-related  undergraduate degrees.  NNOA actively supports the Sea Services (Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard) in the development of a diverse officer and civilian leadership corps through recruitment, retention, and career development.  NNOA desires to increase the number of young Americans pursuing undergraduate degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Since 2010, NNOA Tidewater has awarded over $50,000 in scholarship awards to deserving high school seniors pursuing continuing education in a four-year accredited college or university.

Additionally, NNOA Tidewater Chapter offers the Vice Admiral Samuel GravelyScholarship awards to qualified students entering their freshmen year of college.   Vice Admiral Gravely was distinguished as the first African-American to command a U.S. Navy warship, to be promoted to flag rank and to command an entire Navy Fleet.  In his honor, we award three scholarship awards (one $2,500, one $1,500, and one $1,000) to Hampton Roads High School Seniors.
